This township scene is one of a 'naive' genre which has evolved over the past 20 years, as informal settlements have spread around the Cape Town metropole. Tafara combines a beautifully executed scene using acrylics and oils on board and adds an unexpected element picking out details of the shacks and roofs in metal cut from recycled aluminium cans.
This is the medium size, giving a close-up view of day to day life. The paintings also come in several more sizes with skies reflecting different times of day and each one is different in the details.
