Sculpted from mopane, an African hardwood, this alert little bird demonstrates the artistry of Boniface Chikwenhere who sees a shape within a piece of salvaged timber and draws it out. While the density of mopane makes it challenging to work with, its beautiful colour when polished is very rewarding, which is one of the reasons it is a favourite of Boni's.

This small bird is part of Boni's new range using sculptural wire flowers as part of the stand, in this case a pincushion protea where the bird perches to survey the scene. Each one-of-a-kind sculpture is inspired by the character of the found wood, Boniface seeing his mission as completing nature's work and revealing the animal form that he sees emerging from the grain of the wood. Often the wood is left raw in part of the finished piece, the natural and polished surfaces making a harmonious whole.

All sculptures are fumigated and shipped with a fumigation certificate.
